Can we use AIM or Google Docs to play?
Absolutely. You can play however you'd like, as long as the logs are posted. However, please note that we prefer that the majority of gameplay is done on LiveJournal. If you have all those shiny icons, why not use them?
Am I allowed to backdate any logs or tags?
Backdating is completely allowed! We do it all the time and practically live on it. It is, however, adviced not to backdate more than a week in-game (though definitely not forbidden), especially if it would have important effects on CR in any way. Sorting things out OOCly even while backdating would be a good thing, in this case!
What happens if more than one character begins commenting to a network post at the same time?
Ultimately this is up to the player. A time paradox can occur when two events or threads simultaneously happen. If it doesn't make sense chronologically, one can simply assume the gods had a hand in allowing the events to occur simultaneously. Play out the events as you would if they were occurring independently of each other, and pick whichever thread you feel should have priority as the one that happens first. Or just sum it up as some weird divine intervention.
How does posting order work in multi-player logs?
Posting orders are generally seen as good RP etiquette; while there are no official rules about it, it’s something that should be worked out OOCly between the muns involved so that no character gets left in the dust.
I would like to incorporate the gods or the Oni in a plot or log. How can I do that?
Talk to the moderators! We would be happy to NPC the gods or the Oni for you. If you have a specific idea of an Oni in mind and would like to know if it's possible, let us know. Players are allowed to NPC Oni with permission from the moderators!
Can I use my character journal for other games?
As Kannagara is a community-based game, you may use your character journals for other games. However, we request that you post up an HMD (which is optional) and OOC post for communication and pin it to the top of the journal through forward-dating. We also will require that you post your character's application on the journal.
Character Facts
My character is severely disabled in some way. Would I be able to heal their disability in this world upon entering?
Yes and no. While it will be possible to temporarily heal your character's disability in the world through events and scrolls, if they were born with this disability or if it developed naturally over the course of their lifetime (meaning, it is a biological/genetic disability), they cannot be permanently healed upon entering the world. The reason why we cannot allow this from the get-go is because such an action would be extremely ableist and discriminatory to disabled people. We encourage that you explore the character's disability in some way, and if you do want for your character to eventually be permanently healed, the only way to do so is through divine intervention, where a god grants your character a wish of some kind or answers their prayer.
Can my character bring their pet or animal familiar to this game?
If the pet/animal familiar has canon importance and relevance -- meaning, they are not merely a pet, but actually plays a significant role in the canon, such as Akamaru from Naruto, or Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender, then we will allow this pet to accompany their master into Kannagara. Players have the option of having character waking up in Himorogi with their pet, or they can somehow magically discover them during the course of the game by exploring the world.
How does a canon update work in Kannagara?
There are two ways a canon update can work. The first method is through dreams. Your character will not physically leave Kannagara, instead they will dream about the events that occurred extremely vividly, as though they actually happened; however, they might not feel the full impact of the experience, as they have not actually experienced it. A dream must be posted to reflect this update.
The second way you can canon update your character is by taking them out of the game for at least one in-game day. Your character will magically disappear from Kannagara (and their absence may be noted by other characters close to them), and reappear in their world, where they will actually live through the events. While they are in their world they will not remember anything about Kannagara, but upon re-entering Kannagara in Himorogi, they will not only retain all the information they gained during their time in their world, but also all their previous memories from Kannagara.
Can I reset my character?
If you feel like you need to reset your character completely for any reason, we do allow full resets of characters. You will not need to reapply for your character to do this; instead, your character will need to disappear from the world for at least one in-game day, and reappear in Himorogi with no knowledge or memory of ever having been in Kannagara.
If you would like to partially reset your character due to extenuating circumstances, we will also allow this, with moderator permission. Your character may have selective amnesia and will only remember certain events having happened, or they might remember bits and pieces of the events, as though those memories were dreamed and not actually experienced/lived through. Please ask the moderators about this in our comment box or through email if you want to know more about how this works.
Can my character break the fourth wall?
Fourth wall breakage should be limited to an absolute minimum. If your character must break the fourth wall, you must obtain player permission to do so. While we understand that there may be very amusing consequences to breaking the fourth wall, it can be extremely disruptive to characters to experience this, especially if the player is not comfortable with it.
As a general rule of thumb, if your character has generic, overall knowledge of manga/anime, movies, video games, or any other fandom, your character will not be allowed to break the fourth wall, as there is no evidence that "overall knowledge" would include the specifics of the canons that are in Kannagara. However, if there are specific examples of certain fandom knowledge within your character's canon, we may allow those canons to be fourth walled with player permission. For example, in Gintama, some characters regularly read Shounen Jump -- as such, Shounen Jump characters in Kannagara could be fourth walled if their players are comfortable with it. We would prefer if this is kept to a minimum, and done in some kind of realistically respectful way.
Can my character gain supernatural abilities in this game? They currently do not have any fighting skills or supernatural powers.
Characters can gain supernatural powers in this world, either through training with other characters who control energy/chi/chakra/ki over an extended period of time, or through a supernatural encounter with gods that can grant them powers which they may or may not have any idea how to use. Some characters may even gain powers by discovering magic scrolls. If you are interested in having your character develop powers, please talk to a moderator!
I am importing my character from another game. Will they remember CR that developed there?
If you would like to have your character remember their CR, we will allow CR to be imported into the game, unaltered. There are, however, certain conditions -- if you are applying for a character from another game with CR intact, then you must explain all the events and changes which occurred in-game in your application. Any events that are not reflected in your application or a CR chart will not be applicable to Kannagara.
Also, please understand that other players are not obligated to play along -- for instance, if your character was paired with another in your past game, Kannagara's version of your character's loved one is not obligated to continue to play out that pairing.
If you want to have your character selectively remember certain things from the previous game, you may do so as well.
Keep in mind that if we feel that your character has deviated too far from their canon selves due to their game CR, we may ask you to either revise, get rid of the development, or to have your character believe that the development was just a dream. While we understand considerable development can occur in games, your character must still be somewhat recognizable and reflect their canon personalities/characterizations.
Remember: you may not apply for characters from AU/AR games, museboxes, or private roleplays.
Friends-only games may only be applied for if you supply us as many logs and threads your character was in that you have access to, through Google Docs, HTML files. We prefer to verify the CR you have represented in your application.
If you no longer have access to these logs, please let the moderators know. We will be willing to work with you in some way, and will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
