Housing in the celestial villages
When your character first arrives in Kannagara, they will be directed to one of the communal dormitory-style compounds where all newcomers are allowed to stay for free for up to one in game month. You may request that your character has to share a room with another character, or be housed alone. After that point, your character will either need to find their own place to stay, squat, or be otherwise homeless.
There are plenty of houses in Kannagara that your character can come to inhabit. All of these houses require an in-game monthly tribute to the gods. Once every in game month, the moderators will put up a tribute post where your character can meet other characters on the day of tribute to the gods at various temples throughout the world, develop CR, and also make their own offerings to the gods. These tributes essentially act as rent for the houses. The size of the house and the amenities that are included with it (such as onsens and/or bath houses), as well as the location of the house will factor into how expensive the tribute must be.
If your character does not make an offering within one in-game week that the offering is due, they will be divinely evicted from their homes and will be unable to enter it. They can reinhabit the house once the offering is made. If too much time goes by without an offering, your character will lose their house; their earthly possessions will be thrown out of the house to be recovered by your character or any passers-by.
housing in yomisato
Characters who do not wish to make offerings to gods in exchange for housing in a Celestial village may move to Yomisato, where they can pay monetary rent to a landlord who controls nicer housing in the village, or they may squat in one of the dilapidated ruins or grottoes of the village. Squatters are at high risk of attacks from Yomi monsters and beasts that prowl the edges of Yomi's territory, however. Characters who wish to have their houses protected by a fallen god may receive divine protection in exchange for an offering.
How much rent your character has to pay is up to you. Just be aware that the cost of the rent will increase in relation to how nice the housing is.
paying tribute
A tribute is an offering that is essentially a sum of money that your character must offer at a temple on the day of offering. Other offerings can include burning perfumed incense, food, fruit, flowers, water, or alcohol if your character does not have enough monetary offering to provide. Characters living in Yomisato who wish to receive protection from the fallen gods may also provide these offerings to them at any of their temples. Alternatively, they may also offer a blood sacrifice -- Yomi's fallen gods are especially fond of these. Especially human blood.
other housing alternatives
If your character doesn't wish to live in either the Celestial villages or in Yomisato, they may also choose to squat in caves, temples, shrines, or join one of the nomadic tribes. This will free them from having to pay any rent, though if your character stays for too long at a temple or a shrine, they may be expected to provide an offering. Joining a nomadic tribe will mean that your character will be required to farm, herd, and perform other nomadic duties in order to stay with the tribe.
